Pendleshaw
by Joe Loftus
The layout is to an L-shape and features a 2 platform through station (with only one in use), a single track freight terminal, a single track parcels depot and 2 engineers sidings, all carried on brick arch viaducts and steel girder bridges.
The background to the layout is that Pendleshaw was a junction station but one of the routes has been closed and the civil engineer department has commandeered the trackbed on the disused viaduct for a couple of sidings. The original goods yards closed in the late 1960’s, with the land since occupied by a parcels depot and a general freight siding. It is imagined that the line has been closed past the station for engineering works, hence the termination of trains at Pendleshaw.
Baseboards & Trackwork
The baseboards and trackwork work are currently in progress.
Electrics & Control
The track is DCC powered, using either NCE PowerCab or Roco z21 and the points are moved by servos via a Megapoint control board. The points can be controlled either by toggle switches on a fixed control panel, or by touch screen control on a tablet/smart phone when using the Roco z21 system.
Stock
Stock for the layout is from the main rtr and kit manufacturers, all modified from simple renumbering to full conversions and repaints.
